i don’t know about which schools are the best, but i do have some advice for you;
you have to have a strong aptitude for that, and you need to be very serious about taking that, especially as a major. and you have to be a stubborn student–one who will work very hard to get good at psychology.
i am not trying to deter you from doing that— i actually think it’s a great field, but it is going to be a difficult journey.
my cousin wanted to major in psychology, but changed her major becuase she thought that’s what she wanted, but it turned out that she was wrong.
so just go in there with an open mind, and i hope that you do very well and go far in whatever career you choose to take.

try the major colleges.
in order to be a psychologist, i think you have to get a phd or masters anyway. so focus on your bachelors, anywhere for now, do well. then figure out where you want to go to specialize.

Well, I’ve been looking into that for a while now so I’m in the same boat as you. I’m interested in Sarah Lawrence college, which I would love but definitely isn’t for everyone. You should look into it anyways and see if it looks good to you (http://www.slc.edu). Only problem is that is in Bronxville, NY, but if you really want to do well in psych then its worth looking into, no? UPenn has a very good clinical psychology program (as clinical psychology started there), so I suggest you look into that. I’m in Mass. so sorry but I haven’t looked at too many Penn schools. Try looking at the college search engine on http://www.collegeboard.com , it has helped me a lot. Also, you should read into the different fields of psychology (clinical, social, etc. and see which one you want to focus on). You might want to look for some books that talk about psychology and see if it still interests you after reading about it (not a pop. psych book, but something along the lines of a textbook).
Hope I helped:). Really though, try that college search tool, its amazing.

I live in Montreal and I went to college at Dawsons College for 2 years majoring in psychology and than I went to university in a 5 year program majoring in psychology and I finally earned by degree in Child Psychology last May. It is a very hard and demanding program, but it is absolutely worth it if that is what you want to do. Good luck and just never give up on your dream if that’s what you want to do

can’t say which colleges are the best for psychology but I can tell you about one psychology program in pennsylvania since that’s the state you prefer to go to school in. I’m in the undergrad psych. program at Indiana University of PA. this is a state school. there’s a 4 yr. program here and a Psy.D. program for grad students if you’re wanting to go into clinical. in the undergrad program there’s an honors program you can get into eventually if you have a good college GPA and the person in charge of the program thinks your answers to questions on an application form are good. the honors program allows you to do independent research and go to seminar classes, which are small (teacher to student ratio good here) there are a couple of really cool people in the department and there are a few people who should retire. (I won’t list names here as I think it might be inappropriate to post that information online) there’s a Psi Chi chapter here. politics are an issue in the department, but where aren’t politics a problem? you can see if the faculty member’s research interests match yours if you go to the department website online. Google it if you think it’s worth looking into. this may not be the very best program in the world, but going to a state school could be a lot cheaper than going to a private school. then again, if money isn’t an issue for you, comparatively low tuition costs might not be a good incentive to check out a school. good luck finding a place you’ll like.
